Have you came across an advertisement or just any piece of information that made a huge impact on you? Do you have any brands that you recall of immediately after reading this sentence? What makes them appeal to you?



Welcome to my first blog post. Today, we will be talking about...... yes you guessed it right! Strategic communications! In this ever-changing society, we come across tons of brands almost in every day of our lives. However, some brands tends to stand out more than others, some brands seems to appeal more to us? Have you wonder why is that so?

Think of strategic communication as a game of chess. A carefully organized and structured "move" to capture the minds and hearts of its target audience!

To put it simply, strategic communication is using communication methods to achieve your goals of wanting your target audience to act in the way you want them to. This is not just any communication, it is a PURPOSEFUL use of communication to convince people, resulting in a change in their beliefs, attitudes towards something, or it could even get you to engage in certain behavioral changes!


Why is this important?


Unlike the usual journalism, strategic communication is not just about presenting facts to the audience. While you want to ensure that your information are truthful, you still want to twist the message in such a way that the message will be in your favor. Now, you may start to wonder, why is this important? Why should we learn about it?

Well, in today's society, it is inevitable to not come across strategic communication. Think about the advertisements that you see on televisions, Instagram, YouTube etc. They are all making use of strategic communication to get you to buy their products or adopt the behavior that they want you to!! So... how many times have you actually got convinced by these advertisements? ;)


Apart from advertising, other disciplines like Public Relation, also uses strategic communication as a way of communicating to their audience. But, don't worry about these yet! We will talk more about them in our other blog posts! For now, we just have to understand the basics of strategic communication!


I hope you have a better understanding of what strategic communication really is, and how it is different from other forms of communication! So... the next time you come across an advertisement, you should know what kind of communication they are using right?
