What do they do? The easiest way is to understand it through this definition provided by Public Relations Society of America: A PR specialist is someone who uses strategic communication to build mutually beneficial relationships between its organization and the public.
Essentially... the goal of a Public Relation specialist is to put its organization in a favorable light, so that it can create, maintain or even protect their reputation among the public.

Target audience of PR
Since we have learnt that the main objective of public relations is to establish beneficial relationships to maintain the company's reputation, it is important for the company to identify their target audiences. These people would be those that are directly involved in the company's business. In other words, they would primarily be the key stakeholders of the organization. These people includes business partners, customers, shareholders, investors, employees or even the media that help to amplify the organization's existence.
Upon establishing a promising relationship between the company and the public, the trust that the public have towards the organization would then be build upon. Having this line of trust brings about free publicity for the company and it is also easier for the company to mitigate any crisis in the times of needs. It also made it more possible for the company to convince and influence public's opinion when needed.
